Driven by a recent desire to read all things Bronte (mostly in search of those nuggets of gothic horror), I ended up reading this even though its not the type of story I'd usually go for. It's clear that this is one of Charlotte Bronte's earlier works as the plot is not as sophisticated, although there are some humourous moments. And I'll give her points since this story is still relevant - it reminds me of the stories of recent university graduates who don't know what to do, so they go abroad to teach English and sometimes come back with a spouse.
