This play reminded me quite a bit of the short stories of F Scott Fitzgerald, as well as his first novel This Side of Paradise. Though the plot is not at all similar, there is a similarity in the listlessness of the characters, the sense of being unfulfilled. I enjoyed this play more than I enjoyed Ivanov, and though I don't yet understand the subtlety of subtitling it "A Comedy", I hope that with rereads and watching a staged version I will better understand it.

That being said
I hope the good author does not make a habit of the main character shooting himself in every play or I will have to assume he knows no other way to end them
