The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson
5.0
Even years after the first time I read it, this remains one of the most satisfying and flawless reading experiences I’ve ever had.
*chef’s kiss*
Brandon Sanderson, though his writing and character development in these novels is far from perfect, remains the master of unexpected plot twists and carefully written plot. You learn *SO MUCH* in this third novel about the history of Scadriel and the science of the metallic arts - and the real genius is that we learn alongside the characters, meaning there are never info-dumps that don’t directly relate to the unfolding plot and the characters themselves.
This one in particular is a rollercoaster of a story, and yet all of the unexpected elements are there from the first pages of TFE. Truly the best example I can think of when it comes to carefully plotted pay-off.
Also Sazed is my favorite and I love him forever. I can’t wait for The Lost Metal to arrive this November!
♾/5 stars.
