The Forest Demands its Due offers a blend of supernatural and horror, examining what it means to act on behalf of others and what motivates people. While it is not without some issues, there’s plenty to like about this.
Our main character is Douglas, a young boy who has been offered a chance to make something of his life. When he is charged with causing the deaths of a number of people in a fire at his apartment building, he is offered a lifeline…a new start at the prestigious Regent Academy.
Things don’t get off to a good start, and Douglas is bothered by the strange noises he hears coming from the forest surrounding the school. When students disappear and he seems to be the only one to remember them, Douglas doesn’t know what is going on. The Headmaster tries to explain things, but is keen for Douglas to make himself useful.
When faced with no choice, Douglas has to take it upon himself to try and work out what is going on. It is not at all what you expect. There was so much that could not be explained. It felt rather unfair that Douglas ended up in this situation, but he did it with the best on intentions so it’s not hard to get behind him.
