Delayed Death by Beate Boeker

If you'd have told me when I was 10% through this book that I would end up enjoying it, I'd have thought you were crazy.
If you'd have told me when I was 40% through this book that I would end up enjoying it, I still would have thought you were crazy.
As it is, I pushed through, and I ended up really enjoying it. It picked up about 60% of the way through and ended up being really entertaining. The last half of the book I could hardly put down. The first half....ehhhh... wasn't my particular cup of tea.
Some of the characters make crazy, weird decisions that I really struggled to understand. There were wee bits of fat shaming here and there that I did not appreciate. And there were so many characters that it took me a while to get them all straight (and, to be honest, I still couldn't tell you which cousin belonged to which aunt and uncle, etc.).
But overall, it made sense. Characters' motivations started making more sense, the dialogue got more believable, and it ended up being a good story. I just wish it hadn't taken so long for it to get there. Frankly, I probably would have DNF'd this book if I wasn't reading it for a specific purpose in a reading challenge. But since I was, I pushed through -- and I'm glad I did.
