Hamnet is a captivating read.
Historical fiction based on the little that is known of the Shakespeare family.  It centres mainly around Shakespeare's wife, Agnes (Anne) and the death of Hamnet, (Hamlet) to the plague in the late 16th century.

The writing is rich in detail, poignant and raw. I felt the grief, pain and love. So beautiful yet devastating.

The chapter where Hamnet lays by his twin sister's side as she is gravely ill had my heart breaking and tears flowing. Maggie has done a wonderful job expressing emotions that too often most of us can't find words to describe and explain.

I really enjoyed this book.
