The last Knight brother falls and Eliot's story was everything I was hoping it would be for him. He's bared the burdens of his family history and the dynamics of their trust while he felt that his siblings were all getting to live the lives they were destined for.
Lily is a single mom, fresh of divorce, thinking she was moving to a new town, claiming her land and house that was left to her, and starting a new life. Only she learns there's stipulations for her keeping the house and land, namely her being married, and quickly.
What's she do when her aunt shows up? Blurts the name of the hot cowboy that's been on her mind and declares they're getting married. Eliot being the man he is agrees to her plan and marries her. They only have to be married a year for Lily to keep her inheritance so they both think "no big deal."
Only they start to connect on a deeper level and he falls in love with Lily's kids. Lily finds herself falling in love with her fake husband. He's always there when she needs him and takes such good care of her and the kids.
Eliot can't get the words from his mom out of his head that he'll only hurt any woman he loves so he convinces himself that he needs to put distance between himself and Lily, breaking both their hearts.
Lily wants more, Eliot is scared. What happens when she decides she can't continue with their fake marriage?
Marie Johnston delivered the perfect ending to the Oil Knights series and hinted a new series to come...with the Duke siblings maybe? There's a whole lot to unpack with their family dynamics and the trust their futures are all tied up in.
Can't wait to see what Marie Johnston has in store for us next!
