The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

5.0

Cleverly written, wonderfully detailed, and surprisingly cinematic - I'd absolutely watch this as a miniseries and think it would suit the medium well. My first Schwab but likely not my last.

I wrote recently in my Watership Down review that rereading a favorite book can be delightfully nerve-wracking, a feeling of "this was my favorite, will it still be?". In my initial draft of that review though, I talked instead about another feeling that accompanies rereading a favorite: a kind of warm nostalgia, like a soft, thick blanket on a cool night. A good favorite will wrap you up in cozy myth every time you read it, but especially on the rereads, when the path of the narrative is well worn and creased.

This book gave me that feeling and it's only the first time I've read it.
