We Could Have Been Friends, My Father and I: A Palestinian Memoir by Raja Shehadeh

emotional informative reflective sad fast-paced

5.0

Painful memoir, and ode to lost chances. In going through his late father’s papers, Raja Shehadeh finds new information on his father’s life, his heroic deeds and how similar they have turned out to be. The epiphany is so hurtful, and really makes you think about your choices and relationships.

This book also shows the long and devastating history of Israel and their accomplices taking more and more of Palestine, virtually erasing the nation and its people. These accounts are outrageous, like first displacing the Palestinian people and then ceasing their funds in addition to destroying their homes and belongings.

This quick read is a must read.
