Star Wars: Han Solo by Marjorie Liu

5.0

A miniseries around perhaps the most fanbaity duo of the entire Star Wars saga didn't really appeal to me initially, so I started this one with some dutiful apprehension. I needn't have tho! Marjorie Liu is actually amazing in working out delightful new corners of the universe (the Dragon Void race and its traditions) and adds mysterious and (at times) hilarious new characters (Lo Ree Anno, Dorae). A fish lady surrounded by will-o'-the-wisps for whom this death race is a sacred ritual? A white tiger whom Han & Chewie screwed over in the past? Yeah, feed me that!

The denouement is poetic and beautiful in a way that all Star Wars media needs to be if it's not aiming for "gangstas in space" or full on comedy.
