Alex’s story continued on with even more action, mystery, Gods, a prophecy waiting to happen, a love triangle, and above all trying to stay alive. The last book ended on quite the dramatic ending with Alex having fought her way through Daimons, furies, and unexpectedly a Pure. This time around, things were pretty much the same as the previous books except things were getting even more dangerous for Alex especially with her Awakening almost near so she would become the next Apollyon alongside Seth. Alex wasn’t your average teenager, she wanted to graduate, become a Sentinel, and survive, but things weren’t as easy and clear with all the chaos surrounding her. Alex was in for yet another crazy wild in this book.

The last book was kind of wild especially with everything that happened towards the end, but one thing that became even more prominent in this book was the love triangle Alex was in. I went into this series thinking there would be only one love interest, but with the previous book introducing Seth as another contender for Alex’s heart, it seemed like I was equally caught between who I liked more for Alex. Just as I thought i knew who I liked more, I was once again caught in a tailspin, and this book made me question some things especially about Seth. I originally didn’t think Seth would be with Alex, but the last book made me see him in a new light. I was excited going into this book, but there was something about Seth at certain points in the book that made me wonder, was he really the guy for Alex? Seth was an already unhinged person, but with his Apollyon powers, and his now ever present feelings for Alex, he was on another level of crazy in this book that was a completely different side to him. Not sure if I was the only one who felt like this, but I had my suspicions that Seth knew more than he let on with Alex surrounding her Awakening, and more.
With each book in this series, the stakes are constantly raised, and yet again Alex is in the middle of another battle she needed to face head on. Between Head Minister Telly and only a month before her Awakening, I wouldn’t blame Alex for feeling the way she did in this book. Being a teenager is about enjoying your youth and what not, but instead Alex had to deal with Daimons, and now a secret order determined to eliminate her by any means necessary, she couldn’t catch a break! Also the appearance of an ACTUAL GOD IN THIS BOOK MEANT THINGS WERE GETTING SERIOUS! Wasn’t expecting that certain god to appear, but nonetheless it was kind of cool to see.
This book just kept coming with the punches! AHHHHHH! I didn’t know things were going to play out the way they did with Seth, (sigh) unfortunately the prophecy Alex heard from the Oracle was right indeed, all those moments that Alex thought she knew what was going to happen, ended up being much worse than she imagined. I had such high hopes for Seth, but with his ulterior motives being revealed it was the unmasking of his villain storyline. Looking back now, the things that Seth did in this book actually hinted at the darker parts of him, and his role in achieving exactly what Lucian wanted which was ultimate power over everyone.
On the bright side, at least some happiness came out of this book which was Alex and Aiden FINALLY BEING TOGETHER! After two books worth of angst, and still forbidden love, Aiden had enough of staying away from Alex and finally admitted just how much he LOVED HER! (Sniff) it was romantic and I was actually really happy to see Alex and Aiden have their little moment of happiness together, but it still didn’t take away the level of danger they were in from keeping their relationship a secret and obviously the other threats posed against them. The build up to Aiden and Alex’s romance had been good, and seeing the lighter, happier, and playful side to Aiden was lovely, and it just showed how much he truly adored Alex. (Sigh) in the midst of everything happening, at least Alex and Aiden had each other.
WHAT JUST HAPPENED?! Things kept getting progressively more intense and wild! From Apollo appearing in the story, to Lucian overthrowing the council, Seth going on a murder spree, and yup more Gods appearing, everything basically went downhill towards the ending! Alex’s Awakening finally happened and with it… she not only became fully connected to Seth, but she became the thing she feared most, losing control over her choices, and being at Seth’s command. Each book has expanded a bit more on Alex’s story, and this one was probably my favorite in terms of all the things that Alex found out, and the drama of it all. Things were changing in Alex’s life, and with the Gods coming out, people choosing different sides, it seemed like there was a lot more that was just beginning with all the mayhem that ensued in this book. I’m really curious to see how Alex was find a way out of her specific predicament especially with that cliffhanger like, WHAT?! I throughly enjoyed this book, and in the meantime, I’ll read the novella to keep me entertained while I wait for the next book.
