The Darkest Whisper by Gena Showalter
5.0
4.5 stars
I wasn't big fan of the third book of the series, The Darkest Pleasure so it took me awhile to pick this one up. I started rereading Lords of the Underworld because of the demons but there's so many supernatural beings. I'd suggest giving this series a chance if you enjoy Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark.
Gwen liked to run away and even as a child she had run from conflict, earning the degrading moniker, "Gwendolyn the Timid". I loved seeing the character growth she went through this book even if I was sad her moniker wasn't mentioned by anyone besides herself. Gwen isn't as ruthless as her sisters but that didn't mean she wasn't powerful. She was afraid of her powers and what she could do with them.
Sabin is the keeper of the demon of Doubt. All he wanted was to win hunters and avenge his friend's death. He didn't think he could ever put anyone above his mission and friends. Sabin is immortal, so I loved seeing that while he wasn't a virgin, he wasn't manwhore either.
I loved the romance between Sabin and Gwen. They are both very powerful and neither trusts easily with their secrets. I don't know why but I just love seeing two powerful characters falling for each other without actually trying the whole "hard to get" routine. It can be so tiresome sometimes.
I loved to learn more about other beings besides demons in this book. The Darkest Whisper was definitely my favorite book of the series so far and I wasn't in the greatest moods when I started it since I was sick but I finished it in only few days and couldn't get enough of these two.
