finished the 2nd book in the dark elements series and it was fine, i don't think i'll continue with the 3rd book but i did like it enough to finish it.
my favourite character was zayne in this one. he was so wholesome and protective of layla, it was cute. i liked reading about him.
layla on the other hand... not so much. i don't really like books that have damsel in distress trope, i love my fmc sorting shit out instead of getting in trouble everywhere she went and everyone else saving her ass. i didn't like that about layla.
i also didn't really like her being confused between liking both zayne and roth. she was completely confused going from one to the other which imo was unfair to both of them. i did enjoy the tension between roth & zayne tho lol.
another thing i didn't really like was how they kept saying the word "details" when they wanted to know more info. it made them a bit one-dimensional.
the writing style was super easy to get into and i think this series is perfect if you wanna try reading fantasy. at the same time it did read too ya-ish for my liking. six of crows is a ya as well, but didn't feel nothing like this one lol. that's why i'm not continuing with the 3rd book.
i did appreciate the recap of the 1st book at the beginning, it definitely helped me remember things.
this one definitely had higher stakes than the 1st book so i do think i like this one a tad better than the 1st. the ending also wasn't what i expected it to be, hence why i upped the rating a bit. i did enjoy it. i was feeling fine about it throughout the first half and the middle of it, but the last like 30% of the book definitely picked up.
i do recommend this series if you like romance-y ya fantasy or if you wanna try reading this genre, but it's not the best out there. 🤷♀️
