‘Haunting’ is probably one of the most accurate introductions to the book and what you feel by the end of it. It holds onto you after by wanting to differentiate parts between reality and fiction. The main prose is a telling of day-to-day and purposefully mundane, and a great collection of how our significant memories pervade current experiences. I loved the short stories about other people woven in — it built a bigger world beyond their trip, though reinforcing the distance and relationship between mother and daughter.
