The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

4.0

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was a riveting love story. However... I dislike the frequent name-dropping of artists, poets, etc. I feel it was completely unnecessary and it seemed to me that the author was simply trying to show how cultured she is. In the same vein, there are several times where a character quotes in German or French. I could pick up bits of the French passages but none of the German. I would imagine there are many readers who would have no idea what any of it meant. Again, unnecessary. I was completely unprepared for the "c-word" to pop up a couple of times. I am not at all a prude but when it appeared, it disturbed the flow of the story. If I had been reading erotica, I would not even flinch but in a novel such as this, it just seemed vulgar.

Other than these relatively minor issues, I would definitely recommend this book. The author's use of foreshadowing was impressive and I enjoyed how topics that had been touched on earlier in the book were explained as I got further into the story. I'm not usually a huge fan of time travel, but I enjoyed how it was written in this novel.
