The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King by Carissa Broadbent

5.0

What a journey this book was! the whole series was so many complicated things at the same time but to me above all it was Oraya's journey through fear, from fear of everyone and everything to the realization that fear is innate and can be source of power, her journey through love, from believing it was a weakness to embrace its vulnerability and to give her heart to someone trusting its safe with them.

I specially was impressed by the symbolism of it all and the references to the first book and to the story it taught us, this book cleverly mirrored much of the literary devices from the previous one, where “The Serpent…” showed us Oraya's journey to finding and losing Raihn emulating what happened to Nyaxia and Alarus in a twisted reenactment through the Kejari trials, this book starts from the end when Nyaxia (Oraya) looses Alarus (Raihn) and explores them retracing those chapters as if turning back time and doing the long hard walk to finding the other’s heart again. GENIUS!

The interludes are pure perfection! probably my absolute favorite part of the books, i loved how, again, they mirrored the interludes of book 1 giving us context for each other’s most traumatic event.

Towards the end of the book the pace fell a bit and tho never uninteresting it did lost a bit of momentum, then as if the author realized it was ending and there were still many loose ends, everything got a bit rushed imo.
Regardless, the ending was satisfying and realistic? i wish we had more cant believe this is the end of Oraya and Raihn's story, its been a pleasure to read these to be honest.
