Open Throat by Henry Hoke

This book was ... sufficient! It's a quick read (you'll get through it in a single 2-hour sitting) that's creative, ambitious, and has a unique POV.

It's witty, it's confusing, it's downright bizarre. The absurdity of it all is so entertaining. It makes some adequate points about human behavior, and it was quite innovative to see humanity from the eyes of a curious, isolated, lonely mountain lion.

I just didn't connect with it the way a lot of other readers seem to have. I think the short length was a detriment to the book, because the ideas and concepts were there ... but there was barely any time to explore them in a meaningful way.

My main complaint? This book was marketed as being "queer" -- any and all queer elements (and there are VERY minimal ones) are cursory and very vaguely alluded to. Blink and you'll miss them. It felt like a letdown, because that was one of the reasons I picked the book up to begin with.

Go in with no expectations -- no matter what happens, you will certainly leave entertained.
