This Is How You Lose the Time War by Max Gladstone, Amal El-Mohtar
4.0
Read for Tiny Book Club.
This was definitely a bit overhyped for me, mostly because I wasn't a huge fan of the prose style. However, the epistolary stuff is top notch; you really fall in love with the characters through their own words and writing style - it was the interim, non-letter chapters that put me off. I still liked it, it just wasn't what I was looking for.
It was very fun seeing the different creative ways their letters got delivered. The language used to evoke the complexity of time travel - braids, strands, etc - is all really great, even if the scifi elements are themselves pretty secondary to everything else going on.
