The Forest of Wool and Steel by Natsu Miyashita

5.0

A magnificent book. The journey you take with the narrator is wholesome, relatable, and truly earned. You feel for him and find his struggles in the tiny corners of doubt you experience in your own life.

It was so damn easy to read which makes a world of difference for me nowadays. On occasion I appreciate heavy tomes, but this was refreshing. I didn't need to stop once to look up a word and as a result, it was so so so smooth. The writer evokes crisp imagery and human nature frequently. It wasn't often, but it did drag at some points which is what stopped me from giving it 5 stars. Which was only noticeable because the pacing was otherwise fantastic.

The characters were all believable and human. The story delivered on what it promised. A sweet tale of finding your purpose in life, acknowledging there will be set-backs and moments, days, or years of doubt. We all deserve our own Forest of Wool and Steel moment. This novel had me feeling many different ways as it caused me to pause and reflect. To appreciate the struggles I have put forth so far. It says to us all in a tender voice, "you have come so far, keep going."
