There was so much open love in this book. It was heart warming. The guys in the shop with each other. Gordon with Ox. The Bennett brother because each other. No one seemed afraid to let others see them loving, kind and sometimes weak. For a book actually full of men, many of them werewolves, some of them actual Alphas, there was no misogyny. It was like a breath of fresh air.
I can’t believe that I am okay with a love story that starts when one of the characters is 10(!) but somehow it worked. They weren’t romantic until Joe was 20 but it was love the whole time regardless. And I think that’s maybe why I was okay with it. Love doesn’t just mean romantic love. They loved each other for so long before they ever got romantically involved.
Ox is always so self effacing. A holdover from his father convincing him that he was off and not worthy. Then the Bennetts so up and they are just so immediately taken with him. When I finished the book, the first thing I did was go back and reread the chapter where Joe finds Ox in the woods. Now knowing the backstory, their reaction to him makes so much more sense. And honestly, they played it cool.
The book had many emotional parts where I could feel my jaw doing that feathery, pre-crying bit. Then I did a fair amount of actual crying. In other words, I loved it and would definitely recommend.
