Winter by Marissa Meyer
5.0
I’ve reviewed the first book and now I’m going to review the last one, to close the circle. First of all: I’ve enjoyed this series SO MUCH. It’s been a very long time since I looked forward to reading as much as I did when reading The Lunar Chronicles.
First of all: characters. Flawless, basically. I loved all of them with whole my heart, like damn. I couldn’t even decide who I liked the most. (But lets be honest, it’s Thorne and it will always be Thorne, although Jacin is getting close.) They all had their powers and their weaknesses and their flaws. I was so attached to them that I felt so sad when everything was over and I knew I needed to let them go. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Scarlet in the beginning, but as soon as Winter started, I began to like even her.
Next, plot. Like… great? I mean, can we just take a moment of silence and think about how Marissa Meyer took four fairytales and made them recognizable, as well turned them into a series. She turned fairytales into a series, people. And she did it perfectly. I enjoyed seeing the characters struggle. Not ever did something pass without any trouble. I knew that Marissa Meyer wouldn’t kill of a main character, but still I felt my heart racing when they were in danger. And those action scenes… dear God, they were so well written.
The only part of Winter that I didn’t quite enjoy, was the ending. Because… of course they lived happily ever after, but it would have been more believable is someone had died. A war never spares everyone. Next, I think Cinder deciding to make Luna a monarchy was kinda cliché. Also, everyone just goes on with their lives, without really dealing with the aftermath of war: we never really get so see all the dead bodies or the damages that has been done in the city, it is just briefly mentioned – like it doesn’t really matter.
Next, I still think Levana could have been done better. She was just a psycho bitch and I don’t know… I don’t really like those villains that are just evil to be evil and give the main character someone to oppose against. I’m more a fan of that grey area you see in for example Game of Thrones.
But still, all of that won’t keep me from giving this a five stars, ‘cause I loved this journey and no body can stop me.
