Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
2.0
I normally like to start my reviews with a bit of a description of the story but I don't really know how to do that for this book.
I really didn't enjoy this book at all. Everything about it put me off EXCEPT for the basic idea of it. I really love the idea of it and the general plot, I just wish it was written differently. I did not enjoy the author's writing style at all. It was very back-and-forth which annoyed me. The author also didn't give you a lot of key information until later in the book, which when done correctly can lead to a lot of suspense and I love it. But the way it was done in this book just didn't work for me. I also despised pretty much every character. They were all rude and unlikeable. The only one that was kind of okay was Tommy and he still managed to annoy me.
I can see why people who are fans of the book love it, the idea of it is really something that I love and have loved before in books (see Unwind by Neal Shusterman). But the way it was carried out just did not work for me at all. I do think this is a good book club book as there are plenty of things in it that are great for discussions. It's just the reading experience was miserable for me.
