This book felt like such a microscopic look on what it's like to be a young, POC girl growing up into womanhood alongside a tight girl group. I personally couldn't really relate to the book, but I did feel attached and empathetic to the characters. All the girls have to face that they live in a world that isn't fair or easy on them. There were definitely moments where I verbally reacted to how men especially look at these too young girls. It made me wish they could be shielded from that kind of attention, even though I knew it wasn't possible or realistic. In the end, I feel like this was a story about women and the expectations that are placed on them, whether from society or religion or even their own families. I'm really glad I read this and definitely recommend this book if you want a short book that explores these kind of themes.
