I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

5.0

I’ve never met or talked to Jennette personally, but I feel as though I have grown up with her. Like most people, I used to watch iCarly when I was younger and loved it. So to now read this book and learn about all the heartbreaking things she was subjected too behind the scenes and at home…it’s devastating. I feel for her, and I’m proud of her for putting out this incredibly brave and thoughtful book. She deserves all the success from this.

In terms of writing, everything flowed pretty easily. I managed to read this book start to finish in about a day and a half, as I could not put it down. I like her writing style, and I would be open to reading more by her in the future, if she ever decides to write more.

This is a heavy book. Please look up any content warnings that you might need, as there are many. But I really really hope that this book and its already widespread success stirs some conversation about how child actors are treated, and specifically how Dan Schneider handled his shows at Nickelodeon. Jennette McCurdy can’t be the only one with these horror stories.
