Asking For It by Louise O'Neill
5.0
I had a hard time rating this book. I usually rate everything in terms of how much I enjoyed the reading experience. In this case, I can't say that I enjoyed any part of it. It's a horrible reading experience from beginning to end.
I ended up giving it four stars because I liked most of the decisions that the author takes, like making Emma the opposite of a "perfect victim" or making her a very unlikeable character during the first half (although you get why she's that way, so you can't really hate her).
I also understood the ending. It's bleak, it's horrible, it doesn't leave the reader with hope at all; but I think it's realistic with Emma's personality and how she processes everything that happened.
It's not a book that I would recommend (because, again, it's horrible to read), but I will be reading more Louise O'Neill in the future for sure.

I just re-read this and I'm giving it full five stars.
