I already reviewed this book back in 2018 but I still want to scream at people how unrated this series is and it's a buddy read. You can read that review here.

"You don't know the first thing about me, Adrian Ivashkov. I fight back plenty."

This book is about Sydney Sage who decides to go to Palm Springs to keep Jill (sister to vampire Queen) safe, so her sister doesn't have to. Zoe's mad instead of being grateful of course. Zoe should know her sister better than thinking that Sydney wants to keep Alchemist life all to herself.

Sydney isn't as kickass as Rose and she has fears like magic and re-education center but I like her a lot more than I like Rose. Sydney is relateable and not relateable at the same time. She puts everyone in her life before herself (probably the reason why so many characters get in my nerves. Sydney just deserves so much credit for everything she does for them) but unlike me she loves learning new things. She actually knows five languages and I'm having hard enough time knowing 2.5 languages.

I mostly relate to her relationship with her dad. Sydney wants to please her father but at the same time is afraid to disappoint him, even with knowing that he's never happy with anything she does. He loves her dad but she also has resentment towards him. Thankfully she at least has a good relationship with her mom and they even share their love for cars.

Adrian on other hand is still trying to get over from Rose but Jill really deserved better than to go through everything he put into his system  and I don't even like her that much. Adrian is flawed but that's one of the reasons I love him.

“My God, Sage. Your eyes. How have I never noticed them?"
 "What about them?"
"The color," he breathed. "When you stand in the light. They're amazing... like molten gold. I could paint those..." He reached toward me but then pulled back. "They're beautiful. You're beautiful.”

We didn't really see any romance in this book besides all the love interests Jill has but I like how we got to see Adrian and Sydney becoming friends and Sydney noticing how in some ways they are the same.

All in all amazing read. I was glad to learn more about the Alchemists and their tattoos. I can't wait to continue to the next book with Ruby @ Ruby's Books.
