Company of Liars by Karen Maitland
5.0
Horrible Histories for grown ups.
A Company of Liars follows the trials and tribulations of an eclectic group of travellers trying to avoid the onset of The Plague in England.
Each character has a deep, dark secret that slowly unfolds with their journey.
With an abundance of superstition entwined with subtle supernatural elements, this book was an absolute joy to read.
The last 100 or so pages linked everything together nicely, with (for me) unexpected twists which I had no inkling about!
Secrets and lies in a gruesome setting, just the kind of subject I get my teeth right into. A well deserved 5 stars, I shall be reading more from Karen Maitland.
