The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

5.0

I found it a very sad book, not just when Esther starts her descent into madness but from the beginning when she's lost in life and can't pick a path to follow. I found a lot of similarities between myself and her as I also am in university and at this point am just working towards graduation without a real plan of a career afterwards. It deals with very heavy themes and I found myself sitting thinking about it for some time after I had finished reading. Despite its dark content, it is a great book and has much for its readers to relate to, whether suffering from mental illness themselves or simply feeling lost in life. I definitely want to read more by Sylvia Plath.
