A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
5.0
This book is SO good. Every time I read it, I just blow through it and love it every time. I feel so much for everyone in Afghanistan living in this time, Hosseini does a great job of really showing how tough it was for women (and people in general) during the war. I liked that he incorporated more modern fighting under Bush and 9/11. Mariam's story is always so sad and the letter at the end that Laila reads will forever get me - poor Mariam, and poor Jalil. This book is such a beautiful depiction of love, sacrifice, and forgiveness and will always be one of my favorites. I just wish Hosseini had a list of what every Farsi word meant in English in the back! (: Highly, highly, highly recommend to everyone no matter what kind of book you enjoy because there's something for everyone in A Thousand Splendid Suns.
