"There once was a girl, clever and good, who tarried in shadow in the depths of the wood. There was also a King, a shepherd by his crook, who resigned over magic and wrote the old book. The two were together, so the two were the same. The girl, the King, and the monster they became."
I truly didn't think I could hate a villain as much as I hated the villain in this book. Every single thing I imagine could make up a truly evil character was all wrapped up into one horrific monster. And on the opposite side of the story, I found a whole group of characters I don't think I could have loved more than I do.
I don't think I truly realized just how emotionally invested I was in this story until I started reading Two Twisted Crowns. I definitely was pulled into the world during One Dark Window, but it wasn't until about halfway through TTC when I had a literal gasp-and-drop-the-book moment that I realized I'm 100% invested in all of this world.
The magic system is absolutely brilliant, the cast of characters is diverse, the multiple viewpoints are seamlessly woven together in a complex yet perfectly dark world of monsters, magic, and love. I wish I could live in this world.
