The Interpreter by Brooke Robinson

4.0

I do love me a good old dysfunctional character. One that is so unhinged, you’d say she excelled the definition of crazy.

This book, whilst not as fast paced as others in this genre, had me in a chokehold. It focuses heavily on adoption and social services but it primarily is about Revelle, an interpreter and her ‘mistakes’, some of which have damaging consequences.

I found myself thinking about how this book was going to play out, especially with the blackmail that was going on. I had my mind made up for about 80% of the book as to who the blackmailer was until it all became clearer… no detective here!

I don’t think this is a book for just anyone, especially if you’re triggered by mentions of adoption, social services & blackmail. So, if it is on your TBR shelves, just be mindful when you eventually get to it.

For me, I was hooked. I kept thinking about the characters, I felt the tense atmosphere, the panic & the rising anxiety.

I would’ve liked a little bit more, in terms of action and to have been a tad faster paced but all in all, I really enjoyed this tense thriller.
