Y'all I have FUN with this book. The second someone said a Mulan inspired fantasy I said LFG IM SOLD. I love Mulan (I'll make a man out of you is probably the second best Disney movie song second only to I2I) and I was excited for this. The beginning starts off a little slow but once they get to the war camp it is full speed ahead. There are great twists and turns in this book and there was a lot I didn't predict. I loved many of the comps back to the movie (the dress scene!) and I loved the overall magic world. I do think it was a little long and there was some back and forth between Meillin and Sky that was a bit annoying and juvenile BUT overall I really enjoyed it and can't wait for book 2.
