The Family by Louise Jensen
3.0
This book completely gripped me from the very first page until the last page. When I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it.
I always find it kind of hard to review thrillers because I’m a fantasy reader, but I’ll give this a go.
The Family starts out with such a gripping prologue, and before I knew it I had read 140 pages. I found the writing to be very well written, it flowed well and I liked that we had 3 different POVs, each ranging in a length of chapters – some were long chapters and some weren’t even a page long. I found the short snappy chapters added to the suspense.
From the very start you get a feeling of unease, I knew something bad was going to happen and I was just waiting for it all to explode. And boy did it! There are so many twists and turns, so many secrets and so much betrayal within these pages.
I didn’t particularly like any of the characters, but again, as a fantasy reader I’m used to connecting with characters and I think that lowered my enjoyment of this book a fair bit. Not because of the book, but just a personal preference.
I wasn’t quite sure who I should of been pointing the finger at, so much creepy stuff happened and each time I thought ‘oh is it him?’ ‘Is it her?!’ something else would happen and then I’d be constantly trying to figure it out. Needless to say, I didn’t guess who it was and I’m shocked at the reveal!
