If you enjoy reading about irredeemable villains, moral questions, and crappy people trying to reason themselves out of feeling bad about their crappy actions, I recommend Ballad.

I enjoyed this book a lot, in part because Coriolanus Snow is a crappy guy who thinks he deserves the world. I’d like to go back and find out how often the word ‘deserve’ pops up because he mentions it so often. He’s so self-absorbed and his upbringing doesn’t offer any counter to that self-absorption. The book is a bit like a prolonged character study and philosophy book about the social contract.
