“You won’t be alone. I’ll be right here. I won’t leave the room.” He shook his head. “I—after he was done with me, he always left me alone. I was always alone. I-I just need to know you won’t do that. Please. Even if I’m bad, don’t leave me alone.”
This was really good and I finished it relatively fast, considering my recent bout of slumpiness. If you like your omegaverse a little darker and grittier, then this one is fab. This series has an overarching plot, but I’ve only read this one and quickly got the hang of everything going on. I can tell the author has done a great job with the world building and it really did feel like reading urban fantasy x omegaverse. The concept with the districts and highly oppressive governments was a really fresh and interesting take on omegaverse, and I’m totally here for it. I’m sure I would’ve enjoyed it even more if I had read the previous books, but honestly I’m always going to be a little chaotic when it comes to reading stuff out of order.
Again, I think Jacey Davis handles trauma really well. The topics are always dealt with in a respectful yet real way. There’s never any ‘magic dick’ action, and the characters take time to heal. No one is magically cured by the end of the epilogue either, but the books always ends in a hopeful way where you can see how the characters have improved. I really do love that aspect of it. Understandably after all the trauma both MCs have suffered, the book isn’t very spicy, but it fits the story so well. I enjoyed seeing the intimacy and trust between the characters slowly increasing, and the joy they both got from their bodies and minds healing.
I never thought I’d get emotional from an erection, but here I was, near tears because my omega, my little mouse, was halfway hard and grinning at me.
Arden and Bastion were the sweetest and definitely made for each other. The touch of kink really brought it home for me. I don’t get tired of daddy kink, lol. There’s some D/l stuff with (mild) age regression, but to me it reads like a coping mechanism and just a way for Bastion to escape for a while. There’s no age play in the usual sense. All the action and suspenseful moments made the book even better for me.

“C-can you stop please? I’m sorry.” He was off me immediately, his eyes narrowed in concern. He wasn’t angry, but the guilt I felt was immense and immediate. “I-I’m sorry.” “Hey, hey. It’s fine. There’s nothing to apologize for. You did great.” “I told you to stop!” Gods, he was never going to want to try anything again. “I know you did. I’m so fucking proud of you. I know that was so hard for you. But you didn’t like something and you said no. You’re amazing, sweetheart. So good.”
“Daddy, can I suck on your cock for a little bit?”
