WOW! Okay so I am not a romance reader but you bet I will pick up literally anything Emezi writes and let me tell you I was not disappointed. When they said get ready for a messy romance they were not lying!! This is messy messy! And I ate this up!
Aside from the messy romance aspects of this, this books dives into a lot of discussion about grief. Not only from our main character Feyi but also from other characters she meets as they share with her their own life experiences and are able to relate to her grief and her to theirs. The trauma Feyi experienced is unimaginable, and hearing her talk about how she has been able to keep on living is - a lot to process emotionally. You really feel for her.
I also really loved the part when Feyi is talking about her artwork and mentions Yagazie Emezi, of course Akwaeke Emezi's sibling. I loved this nod to her and her work.
