Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas

4.0

Thank you to HarperCollins Children's Books and Netgally for the advance copy. I love Angie Thomas and all that she writes, and this one is another winner. I think Thomas has such a strong writing voice and addresses so many important issues of today that she will be one of the most iconic writers of our time. One of my favorite parts of this book is the character development, and the way that Thomas is able to capture the nuances of each person (how we are not all good or all bad). I loved the relationships between Mav and his mom as well as Mav and Mr. Lewis - they warmed my heart. My only complaint is that there were some very big loose ends remaining at the end of the story. It's been so long since I've read THUG and maybe they are answered there, but I was a little disappointed by the lack of closure. If you enjoyed THUG then make sure to pick this one up when it releases!
