such a wonderful exploration on the founding of religion, love, and what condemns humans into their most vicious and monstrous forms. butler’s craft cannot be understated, this is an utterly ingenious bit of work considering the human condition and its extremes. some parts of it will absolutely be living in my head rent free.

i just wish i connected with it more. this is a book made to be studied, and isn’t something i necessarily enjoyed. i just didn’t connect with the characters, and so much of the plot was symmetrical to typical YA dystopia tropes that i’m completely fatigued by, and so spent a lot of the book just. forcefully carrying on.

it’s definitely a good book. a wonderful book. an ethereal book even. i just did not care for the characters, and so missed out on being able to fully immerse myself in the genius behind the story.
