everyone will tell you that alice in wonderland lives in my head rent free and i am a TYRANT when it comes to  prequels/sequels/retellings because they have to be perfect. and that’s what this was. i feel absolutely insane…you can tell this was such a passion project for marissa meyers because every little detail is thought out, every reference is layered and deserved. catherine’s character arc is so masterfully crafted and jest is so perfectly charming. and on top of it all, it’s beautifully written and so so tragic. the painted roses and the double entendre prophecy and Hatta’s pocketwatch. i simply cannot praise this book enough and i will be thinking about it until i die.

only read this because i saw a tiktok about when aiden says he likes reading the red tabs in summer’s romance books and suggests they go upstairs so he can show her what he learned. sorry to say that’s the only good line in the whole book. glad she was brown tho so i’m rating higher than icebreaker for that

i read this entire book while listening to bts and let me tell you. listening to black swan while Moon is doing his blindfolded ballet thing in chapter 1 is an experience. anyway i would never do what the protagonist did because i am not a jimin girlie. y'all stay safe

just…disappointing? i think the representation is very good and i like the integrated urdu throughout, especially the fact that it isn’t italicized the way non-english words so often are. decolonialism babyyy. i just wish it wasn’t so poorly written
