Changing the perspective of humanity and being a human, BIG recommend. Also very entertaining, touching and well written with good and well argumented case-examples. Really hopeful.
Better than the first one (I love that too). Easy to consume action-fantasy, that still does the job even tho the first time I read these was over 10 years ago.
I was not prepared for these emotions. This book discussed surprisingly many topics from loneliness and rootlessness to teenage parents and even addictions, but after all it was so hopeful and beautiful and heartwarming. Unique set up and story, although I wish it was a tiny bit shorter, especially when the plot was quite predictable the whole time. That isn't a bad thing tho, the suspension came from the characters not knowing what happens next and the reader waiting for their reactions. I also really loved the characters.
Although it's a product of its time (I read it out loud to my daughter and censored/changed some stereotypical things on the go), its a fantastic story that still gets me as an adult. It's quite scary for small children tho! I read it with my 4 yo, and wondered if she is too scared, but we both enjoyed it. Roald Dahl wrote exquisite childrend books!
Also the Finnish translation was really good, as it is in every Dahl book.
Laadukas, empaattinen, ajatuksiaherättävä ja turvallinen opas seksuaalikasvatukseen. Todella lukijaystävällinen. Suosittelen kaikille aikuisille roolista ja tilanteesta riippumatta!
Yllätyin! Tosi kiva välipalakirja, lyhyt mutta mukaansatempaava. Hyvin kirjoitetut hahmot ja uskottava ja ajankohtainen nuoren näkökulma. Vaikka kohderyhmä on nuoret, upposi aikuisellekin vallan mainiosti. Odotin etukäteen hieman latteaa kauhukirjallisuutta, mutta mielestäni tässä oli valjastettu toimivat kliseet melko toimivasti jännittäväksi ja jännitteiseksi tarinaksi.
An adventurous and addictive novel that combines fantasy/scifi and Greek mythology effortlessly. And it's also written from a feminist standpoint! How could you not love this? I wasn't familiar with Circe before, but after this she is an iconic character and symbol in my mind. The misogyny in the story was really frustrating, but Miller succeeded to handle it wisely and reflectively, almost empoweringly.
Beautiful, haunting, touching story. Well written characters, especially Marie-Laure felt like she could materialize in my living room. Immersive and plausible picturing of the times and war, that made me actually think of the horrors that people have to face during times of war. Despite the hopelessness, ugliness and desolation the story still managed to remind about the human things that make us want to survive and things that make life worth living.
