Re-read this while getting ready to see the new Gatsby musical at the A.R.T. in Cambridge! I’m always blown away by how complete and engrossing this is in just 176 pages. I could never tell such a complicated story so concisely. It’s a shining example of truly great editing.

However, I  do remain a Jay Gatsby hater.

Fun re-read with my mom, I really enjoyed sharing this story with her and revisiting it. The only reason I can think I gave it four stars rather than five on my first read must have just been because I had just read Hill House and I didn’t love this as much. It’s every bit as genius, though, and definitely one of my favorite books. Jackson’s writing is so modern, it always amazes me how before her time she was.
