bruh!! I hate this!! this is the second book from the throne of glass series and tbh I have already forgotten most of the plot. I have been told by many people that the first two books flop but at the third one it gets really good so I'm trusting you guys. I need a break from this before I can pick up heir of fire though. 1.5 stars

I decided to read this book because I love anna kendrick and it was pretty much exactly what I expected. this was definitely a memoir written because someone on her management team was like "you could make a lot of money if you write a book!". while there was quite a lot of really interesting stuff in here, it definitely felt very unfocused; like there wasn't really a *reason* for this memoir. it was stuck between being an advice book and just a recount of random stuff in her life it's also painfully mid-2010s and there's lots of "look how awkward and silly I am!" moments. if you are interested in reading a series of vignettes about her life, I would recommend picking this up! it is always interesting to hear from non-nepo baby celebrities. also, if you do read this, I would highly recommend the audiobook as it is narrated by anna kendrick herself! 3.25 stars

OMG MEAN GIRLS IN THE REGENCY PERIOD!!!!! I REPEAT!!!!!! MEAN GIRLS IN THE REGENCY PERIOD!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!! it is a truth universally acknowledged that girls just wanna have fun. this is about 19ish georgina who gets sent to her aunt's house while her parents go to the sea for her mother's health. there, georgina befriends the daughter of a lord, frances campbell and from there she enters the world of the rich girlies, going to parties, getting wasted and meeting boys???? this was literally the most mean girls thing I've ever read and I mean that in the highest of compliments. lex croucher perfectly depicts how exciting it is for georgina to get swept up into this world and you can see as she slowly starts to make bad decisions and ahhhhh it's just so good😭😭😭 this was so fun and while I'm no historian, it managed to weave in modern themes into the regency setting quite well. it would have been really easy for lex croucher to make a bunch of steretypical characters, but as the book unfolds, each character is unpacked and it was just so much more depth than I expected from this book! if you love young adult very flawed female characters, this is definitely the book for you!! 4.5 stars

okay this was my favourite of the brown sisters trilogy!!! this is a romance book about dani, the middle sister who is studying her phd. when a practice evacuation alarm goes off, she gets stuck in the elevator and she gets "saved" by her friend and the building security guard, zafir. he carries her out bridal style and someone gets a video and it goes "viral" so they decide to fake date so more attention goes to zafir's charity. pretty basic, if convoluted premise for a romance book. dani is my favourite kind of romance protagonist, witty, intelligent, career-oriented woman!!! I adore talia hibbert's writing and I thought that there was a perfect amount of sideplot that actually added to the story! i believed dani and zafir's friendship and later, their relationship, I love them!! like always with talia hibbert, though, bthe third act break up was annoying but whatever. love you talia! 4 stars🤩

okay so as we all know I am very behind on my reviews. I read this about a month ago and tbh I cannot really remember a lot from this which is telling. this is another continuation of the avatar comics and this one is about the rift between the spirit world and the "real" world. A place that was once protected by the airbenders due to an ancient treaty was taken over after the war (as they didn't know it was sacred!) and the earth kingdom were mining ore and ruining the land. I don't think that this necessarily treaded much new territory that wasn't in the show although it was nice to see aang wrestling with the fact that all airbender knowledge comes from his memory and toph's relationship with her dad. def still read it if you're reading all the comics but it definitely wasn't the best one 3.5

this is about a spy who has to look into this fancy private school so he adopts a random kid so he can pretend to be the parent of a student. the school requires a meeting with two parents so he enlists a random girl to marry him and this book follows the hijinks of this "family". the dad is a spy, the kid can randomly read minds and the mum is an assassin but none of them know about the others' secret lives (apart from the mind reading kid!) so there's lots of comedy from that and I assume that throughout the rest of the series the mum and dad fall in love and they become a proper family. i just didn't really find this engaging and it was a bit ridiculous but not in a way that I found fun. if you typically read manga though this might be your thing! 2.75 stars

cute but ultimately forgettable. we read a snippet of this in my fiction writing class (the author is an alumni from my course!!) and then a few days later I saw it in an op shop so I had to buy it!! this is about a clearly autistic coded 40ish protagonist who decides that he wants a wife so he develops this questionnaire to help him find the perfect woman and can you believe that the woman he ultimately ends up falling for is someone that fits almost none of the parameters but she understands him in a way that no one else does???? this was not groundbreaking but I still enjoyed this story😊 I tend to not read romances written more than 5 years ago as they tend not to age well and I think that it's safe to say that my thinking is sound. I did, however, enjoy the protagomists voice and this also might be the first (hetero) romance book I've read by a man so that's fun! 3.5 stars
