My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh

That was a weird one. Writing was (as always) superb and I think that's the biggest reason for my rating.

My working class heart found it difficult to navigate this novel, knowing that she could simply afford not to exist, whereas working class people have to keep existing every day despite their trauma.

Not one of my favourites, did think it was a tiny bit boring, but loved the fact that it took place in London!

This was genuinely such a good book. I know that had I read this back when I was 15 and in my crazy dystopian phase, I would have lost my mind and devoured the series immediately.

Reading it now at 28, I can definitely appreciate it, but I do not feel the urge to move on with the rest of the books at the moment.

**this was the 1st book we read for our book club at work!

There's something so special about revisiting a book you used to love as a kid. Geronimo Stilton used to be one of my most favourites book characters EVER and I was so excited to realise that it still holds up now, that I am an adult!

Really enjoyed the artwork and the story was quite fun too, but I didn't feel I really connected with anyone? Wouldn't reread tbh.

Wild ride from start to finish and now the only thing I want to do is read the Hunger Games again 🥹
Yellowface by R.F. Kuang

My first ever book from Kuang and it so thoroughly enjoyable! Read most of it while flying from my hometown in Greece back to London and it was so entertaining!

I will admit, I've seen the YouTube videos dissecting the book and its themes and I feel slightly guilty for not paying a closer look at the underlying messages. On the other hand, I had a good time "mindlessly" reading this, so doesn't that could for something?
The Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore

I know that this is awfully low rating for a book that everyone seems to absolutely adore, but there is a massive difference between writing familiar tropes for comfort and this book.

Unfortunately, I found it too on the nose and it felt so much like media I'd consumed before that there was no excitement about the progression of the story.
The House of My Mother by Shari Franke

Having watched 8 passengers fof several years, this was massively eye opening. Shari is a remarkable young woman!

**I do not rate memoirs

Can never go wrong with Kingfisher's books! One of my favourite writing styles ever.
