My first impression upon finishing this was how waaaaaaay better it was than Icebreaker! And my biggest compliment ever, as opposed to the first book in the series, is that it didn't drag, almost nothing felt unnecessary.
I've grown up going to summer camp, so this setting was ideal for me, it was so much fun and I truly loved all the summer shenanigans. I did enjoy our pair's communication and it was cute wa ching them fall in love, and the writing was really flowing, even though I did think at some point that the author was using a lot of buzz words, like "miscommunication" or "love language", etc.
**cannot rate it higher since it unironically offended my one true love, Mr Darcy, #sorrynotsorry

The premise of this book set it out to be an exciting and horrifying read, and it was, for the most part.
I found it slightly too long, especially since it felt like we had 2 climaxes instead of 1 and also because the subject matter was slightly vague, meaning that at the end of the day, our heroes didn't really "solve" anything.
Other than that, it was atmospheric, but it felt too slow sometimes and that did affect the overall effect that book had on me.

In a way, I'm glad I read cause FOMO 😂🙈 other than that, I didn't feel like I read something that I haven't read before in terms of tropes and guessing what would happen next.
Sometimes, I do enjoy reading the same tropes with slight alterations to serve the specific plot, but this wasn't one of those times. I was soooo lost with the plot and who was supposed to be fighting with whom, I just think I didn't have the mindset to properly follow everything. Also it was soooo long 🥲
I do understand its appeal, but I won't be continuing with the series.

2023 --- I just loved this book so much. It was so cozy, so heartwarming, the perfect autumn read! Listened to it as an audiobook and I never though an Irish accent would do it for me 😉🙈 (5 stars)
19/08/2024 --- read it for the second time and even though it was an enjoyable read, I feel like this time I could see it with more "critical" eyes, or maybe I was a little bit detached from it, I have no idea, but it wasn't the 5 star read I remember from 2023. Still fun, still an interesting concept, but I felt it was lacking in distinct voices for the children, tried too much to be quirky and cute and some plot points felt rushed.

This was really really enjoyable! I did leave it for a good week as soon as I hit the 30 chapter mark, but when I picked it back up again, it was so easy to finish it.
I liked how the ending came about, didn't mind thedouble reveal at the end, I was hoping that Andy would actually be alive, based on what the lady at the inn said as well but other than that, I was pretty happy with how all the loose ends tied up.
An easy, fun read, will watch the TV show, even though I've heard they are deviating from the book quite a bit.

Counting the Cost by Derick Dillard, Craig Borlase, Jill Duggar
All I have to say about this book is how immensely proud I am of Jill for surviving all that. And how much respect I've got for Derick and their marriage, that they somehow made it work thought everything that happened to them.
I found their show randomly on YouTube when I was 19 and was sucked in. 8 years later this book (and the recent news about the family) slapped the rose tinted glasses off my face.
**I do not rate memoirs

I think this is the perfect book to read as the weather is slowly transitioning into fall, it felt very cozy and the romance was really sweet! Other than that, I think that if I had read it at a younger age, I would have definitely rated it higher!

To be entirely honest, I didn't enjoy this as much as I hoped I would. Partly because I didn't connect with the main character at all and partly because it felt like there were 2 stories happening simultaneously without them mixing very well; one story being the werewolf stuff and one story being the sister & Ian relationship thingy.
One thing that I did like was how the sisterly relationship was portrayed, always love reading about sisters in books!

Having read 3 of his books within almost a month, I find that they are very repetitive in structure. We are following someone in the present, that always doesn't remember what happened in the past and then we follow what happened in the past too, at a slow and agonizing pace. I do get that it works, but at this point, the unreliable narrator trope is being slightly overused.
Saying that, this was probably the best out of the 3 books I read, mostly because I didn't know I'd enjoy a haunted house this much!
not to be a smartass, but like HOW did no adult think that a houre as huge as that one would possibly have a secret passage through the armoire!! How were they sooooo dense is beyond me really. When your kid keeps complaining about the armoire, you check the fucking armoire 😂
