Vagablonde by Anna Dorn

I really liked Perfume & Pain so I decided to read Anna Dorns other books. Vagablonde was a lot of fun, but still had a good amount of heart. I liked the unlikely friendship between Prue and Yumiko. The two books I've read so far have had similar vibes without just being copies. I really enjoy books about messy unlikeable women so this works for me. I'm looking forward to reading Exalted.

A difficult one to review. Very dark and difficult to read but I loved the more critical narration and the style of the book.

This has been on my list for a while. It was definitely a very dark (and potentially triggering to many people) story, but I loved it. It was both relatable and extremely unrelatable at the same time. At its root it's about lonely, abused, traumatized people who don't know how to be functioning members of society. A lot of sadness.

This is probably the most mature book I've read in the animorph series so far. It didn't even really feel like I was reading a middle grade book honestly. It was incredibly dark and sad, I really loved the way it explores the horrors of war and violence and oppression. There was so much going on and even a beautiful love story. A true masterpiece tbh
Your Utopia: Stories by Bora Chung

I was a big fan of Cursed Bunny, so I was excited to read Your Utopia. Yet I kept putting it off. There were stories in here that I absolutely loved but there were also quite a few misses for me. It wasn't the 5 star every story is a winner kinda experience I had with Cursed Bunny. There was definitely still more than enough in here to be worth the read though.
The End Of The Voyage was so much fun and a really unique take on two common tropes.
Maria, Gratia Plena was beautiful and so sad.
A Song For Sleep was my favourite story, I just loved it.
Seed was my other favourite and it was hard to choose between this one and A Song For Sleep as my top pick. Such a sad but also funny and unique story.
To Meet Her was also a very good story, I loved the protagonist.
Your Utopia, A Very Ordinary Marriage, & The Center For Immortality Research were the three that just didn't really work for me.
This collection was a lot more focused on SciFi which I love but I did wish there was more horror as well. Definitely excited to see what Bora Chung puts out next, I think I remember seeing a novel in the works but I don't see it listed anywhere now so I'm not sure.

I have had this book on my list for a while because it's based on Jewish folklore, but I kept putting it off cus I'm not huge on fantasy, I'm so glad I finally read it!
The Pomegranate Gate is probably one of the most Jewish books I've read which I loved! The story was super interesting. At the beginning I was having a hard time getting into it but I'd say around the 30% mark is when I started being super intrigued and reading a lot faster.
I've always been a fan of fae folklore so a book from a Jewish perspective that incorporates a lot of the same things worked super well for me! I'm excited to read the sequel which I've already been approved for on netgalley, thank goodness because I don't think I could wait until October.

I was lucky enough to receive digital advanced copies of both books in this duology so thank you to the publisher for that! I loved this book just as much aas the first one, and I was really worried I wouldn't tbh. I love how the plot is so ridiculous and kinda silly but it doesn't make the story silly, there is so much heart and relatablitiy in these books!
Obviously after the first books cliffhanger I was dying to find out what would happen, and I did not see any of that coming! I was literally sitting in shock while reading this book lol. I also finished it in a day which I hardly ever do anymore. I was very satisfied with the ending to this book but would love to see the world expand and get some books focusing on side characters. Definitely will keep an eye on this author either way!
