Definitely a piece of art where trying to describe it goes against what it's trying to accomplish
In the Woods by Tana French
I honestly wish I hadn't read this, for a lot of reasons, but a big one being that I now want to read the sequel.
Also, reading this made me realize just how much I should not have read The Treatment by Mo Hayder back in 2017.

the cousins Tamaki have an astonishing ability to aim directly for my heart and hit every time. I know I would have loved this even if it had come out a few months earlier, before my view of myself and my personal history were permanently changed by grief, but of course the timing was just right so that I could have my heart shredded by what was meant to be a very sweet scene. I am very grateful to be able to engage with art that is thoughtful, meticulous, and vulnerable in its depiction of life, the joy and the mess, because without it I would be very literally lost.

I feel fucking bereft after reading this, which is obviously not the intent, but nonetheless I mean that as a compliment

it's easy for stories about social media to be didactic or trite and this is neither!
