I can't lie, it was a battle to finish this book. Each page an agony. Kafka's intense adoration was cute for the first few letters but it got old so fast. Not at all a book for me, almost became a DNF.

I love these books. Percy is a spectacular main character. He is funny, relatable, sweet, honest, flawed, brave and just a delight to read. This book brings back all those lovely, hazy feelings of nostalgia and teenage adventure.

Not a book I necessarily enjoyed reading considering the content but a really interesting and nuanced look into Zimbabwe and particularly the effect colonization and tradition alike had on women. I really enjoyed the way in which it was written. It made the somber material quite digestible.

I'm not typically a non-fiction reader and thus book kind of reminded me of why. I think the fact that the content itself doesn't appeal didn't help either. I just found it boring and a lack of background to Patti Smith made it hard to follow. The relationship between Patti and Robert was quite heartwarming.

Not to my taste at all. I really hated all of the weird depictions of Toru's sex life. Just gross and uncomfortable. Also, the obsession with Naoko's body and the constant sexualization of this character was just so misogynistic and creepy. I felt so disconnected from the main character that I could not enjoy any of the pros. A fairly unpleasant read.

In truth this review is being written a while after I read this book so it isn't an accurate reflection of my opinion. Although I will say the fact that I have so little to say about it only a few months later points to how underwhelming a read it was. I genuinely can't remember a single thing about this book.
