I wanna give this book five starts because it's technically good and I couldn't put it down, but it's also the most violent pornographic thing I've ever read. I'm fine with gore in books or movies but the descriptions in this book of sexual violence and harm to other characters is just so gross. It's a really well written story and gripping to say the least. The ending is what I'd hoped for so I at least can rest easy with that

I'm really torn on how I feel about this book. Yes. The movie adaption is better and I will 100% say that. But, I expected more from this book. It was well written and well planned out but just fell flat for me. The graphic dog killing scene too really turned me off. I know it's weird to say when I actually wanted the main character to die after having to read through the sex scene but. It was so.. ugh

"if god sat right here in front of you and I said to eat your own foot. You'd do it. Vern said girls are too emotional and that less information is easier. You'd make something out of it. That wasn't even real. and here you are doing just that proving him right"

"If god asked me to eat my own foot, I hope I'd realize he was no god"

So I went into this with no expectations at all, I just picked it up randomly at the used book store and saw it was a short horror book, and it would be a quick read.
I definantly ended up pleasantly surprised. It's a really well written story and although it's not very fast paced, it's short enough that it doesn't really bother me. Although I wasn't around when Dwyer's suicide happened, I stumbled upon the video at a very young age, and was around when boys in my class would find it funny to randomly show you bestgore videos. I have bad intrusive thoughts and the images I saw never really left me and I still see them sometimes when I close my eyes.
Overall scanliners was short and quick, definantly worth the read.

So I have some mixed feelings on this. In some ways I really did enjoy it but it also was sort of boring and Holden just made me mad, even though I can sympathize with him. But overall it was an interesting book

Had to read this for school and it's probably the first ever book we've been told to read in school that actually captured my attention. Super interesting
