UNDEAD: Finding Love in the Zombie Apocalypse, Volume 1 by Fumi Tsuyuhisa

I happen to see that someone else was reading this series for Zombiethon. I see gay manga and zombies so I had to check it out as well. It was fine. It had nice art but it was a pretty standard manga story just with zombies added in. I think there is only 2 volumes and with how this one ends I probably will pick up that last volume. Wasn't anything super special or rememberable.

Oof. This was sadly rough to get through. The art looks great and the idea is awesome. But the characters are so infuriatingly stupid that it makes it even more annoying when those characters aren't the ones dying. I don't think I can read through them making more terrible decisions for another volume. Another issue I had with this was from start to finish every other sentence was either cut off or the character just didn't finish the sentence. I know it was to show stress and the intense moments but not for every single sentence. It was frustrating to read. I really wanted to like this but not for me unfortunately.

I've seen this cover a couple times but if it weren't for Zombiethon I'm not sure I would have ever actually checked it out. I was definitely not expecting to completely power through the entire series. So this review is for the whole series. This was absolutely silly. That's the best word I can use to describe it. A light and fun read from start to finish. With a few shockingly emotional scenes I wasn't expecting at all. My only issue with the series is it felt like more needed to happen between characters. To have this cute moment with Tohno and Rio (the Rio moment made me tear up) and absolutely nothing with Haru felt so wrong to me. Justice for Haru!

You get no answers when reading this one. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it does make it a bit confusing. Especially with the terms used. Some of the zombie terms I could get after a bit but others I still have no idea what they meant. The fights were really good but at the end I was just left lost.

I was excited to check this one out for Zombiethon. The idea of the plot is fun. And I decided to listen to the audio book which has nice production with sound effects and music. But the story while it had good moments was just lacking something. By the end I just felt meh about the whole story. Maybe it is wasn't a short story and had a bit more to build I might have liked it more but who knows.

I saw the reviews weren't great but for Old School April I figured I'd give it a try. Unfortunately the reviews are right. This was a rough one to get through. I just never wanted to pick it up. I didn't care about the characters or the plot. And the writing wasn't for me to say the least.

With every anthology there are good and bad stories. But even the bad in this wasn't enough to ruin the whole book because the good was just that good. It was great being able to revisit authors I recognized and find some new ones I'm excited to check out more from in the future. This was such a nostalgic filled trip from start to finish.

I'm sad it took me this long to find a way to read the final volume. I think it would've had a stronger impact if I would have read it closer to the other volumes. But I am truly glad I read it. This is such a sweet series. With adorable characters and cute moments.
