I love this series. This book was indeed very dark, brutal and sad, but at the same time ... awww🥰
Although some questions were answered, there are still some plot points which remain mysterious. Something is so weird/off about a certain character. I have of course theories, but nothing fully makes sense, hmm.
Let's move on to the next book!

Alright, I decided to not continue with this series.
Don't get me wrong: although Fourth Wing wasn't by any means flawless, it was entertaining enough and I had a good time with it. This installment on the other hand? It was a painful experience. Iron Flame has in the german edition almost 1000 (!) pages, so it's a brick of a book, which normally wouldn't be a problem if it had any substance. Unfortunately, more than 50% (my god, maybe even 70%, I don't know) were about Violet's and Xaden's relationship (issues) and I had to read the same argument over and over again. At the same time, the plot was all over the place and felt often so rushed, that there was almost no chance for me as the reader to be impacted by it. I literally doesn't care anymore and that's a sad thing to happen. It was just insanely dragging and exhausting. This leads me to the characters: Violet is one of the most annoying, self absorbed and stupid protas I've read in a long time and I'm not willing to deal with her any longer. Xaden was (according to Violet's nonstop thoughts) apparently something close to ... "dangerous", "deadly", "hot like the burning pits of hell", "with a perfect body" and only looking at him makes her forget everything what is supposed to be important. Well, compared to her he was a little bit more reasonable and likable, I think. I'm not sure. Ah, forget it, his behaviour was also questionable.
I liked some of the side characters, but because the sun orbits around the two main protas, I was left wishing for more.
I'm sorry, I wish I could be a bit more positive about this series, but it was on so many levels just too much. Three more books of that sort? No, thank you.
